NCP's march in Madaripur postponed
The National Citizens Party (NCP) has postponed its planned Madaripur march and road meeting following an attack on its leaders and activists while en route from Gopalganj.
Masum Billah, member secretary of the Madaripur Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, announced the postponement on Wednesday evening (July 16). The NCP rally in Madaripur had been scheduled for 3.00pm on the same day.
The attack occurred as top NCP leaders were traveling to Madaripur as part of their nationwide march. The assault was reportedly carried out by banned Chhatra League activists, prompting a security response from law enforcement in the area.
Earlier in the day, members of the Madaripur Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a protest rally in Gopalganj to condemn the attack and demand exemplary punishment for those responsible. They warned of nationwide protests if law enforcement fails to take immediate action.
Billah expressed that the attack was a deliberate attempt to disrupt the Madaripur program but reaffirmed their commitment to carry out the movement, stating, "We will not be intimidated by such attacks."
The rally in Madaripur has been rescheduled, and authorities are expected to maintain heightened security in the region.
