Neela Israfil, a former leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has announced her candidacy for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral election.

She made the announcement through a poster shared on her Facebook account on Tuesday night (May 6).

In her post, Israfil said she decided to run for mayor “inspired by the love and encouragement of people,” expressing her vision for a “clean, safe and livable Dhaka.” She also sought public support for her campaign.

In subsequent posts, she made strong political remarks, questioning voter choices and pledging to build a disciplined, transparent and developed city administration. She also vowed to uphold the spirit and values of the Liberation War.

“I also pledge that the city will remain free from the influence of anti-liberation forces,” she said.

Israfil was active during the July movement and later joined the NCP. She subsequently resigned from the party following internal disagreements with another leader, Sarwar Tushar.
