Nepal's PM Balendra Shah thanks Bangladesh for flood assistance

Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the Bangladesh government's $1 million financial assistance towards relief and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of the devastating flash floods in northern Nepal.

The Nepali Prime Minister conveyed this gratitude in a diplomatic letter sent on September 10. In the letter, he mentioned the loss of lives and extensive damage to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods caused by the devastating floods on August 26.

The letter was mentioned in a Facebook post by the BNP Media Cell.

In the letter, Balendra Shah wrote that the financial assistance provided by Bangladesh will play an important role in Nepal's ongoing humanitarian assistance and post-disaster recovery efforts.

He also mentioned the condolence motion adopted in Bangladesh's national parliament on August 27, mourning those killed in Nepal's floods. Balendra Shah said this initiative is a heartfelt expression of Bangladesh's deep sympathy and solidarity with the people of Nepal.

Highlighting the historical relations between the two countries, the Nepali Prime Minister said Bangladesh is not just a close neighbour of Nepal, but a dear friend. He expressed hope that the existing close ties and friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries would help further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.

Earlier, on September 3, the Bangladesh government provided $1 million in assistance to the Nepal Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. The funds were provided for use in relief, recovery and humanitarian efforts.
