Allegations of nepotism have surfaced against Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) MP Maulana Nurul Amin, with claims that his nephews, brothers-in-law and close relatives have been made presidents of multiple projects under TR, KABIKHA and KABITA allocations.

According to sources, the MP received special government allocations of Tk 30 lakh under Test Relief (TR), Tk 25 lakh under KABITA and 40 metric tonnes of food grains under KABIKHA for the current fiscal year. A total of 30 projects — 14 under TR, 11 under KABITA and 5 under KABIKHA — were undertaken in his constituency.

In Tularampur village of Sadar union, work is ongoing on two projects under the MP's special allocation. One KABIKHA project involves the development of a prayer room and land filling, with Yakub Ali, the MP's brother-in-law (husband of his cousin), made the project president.

The second project involves road paving, guide wall construction and land filling, with Yakub Ali's son, Salman Sharif Shaon, made its president. The two presidents are father and son, and both are relatives of the MP — nephew and brother-in-law.

Other projects have reportedly been given to close relatives and party leaders and activists, sparking widespread discussion and criticism.

Local resident Mukul Mia questioned the proper implementation of projects where the MP's relatives have been made presidents. Manju Mia said an application for the development of the old Jame Mosque was not approved, while the MP gave projects to his relatives.

Project president Yakub Ali said he was unaware of the allocation amount and was simply doing the work as instructed.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abdul Aziz said allegations would be investigated and action taken if irregularities were found. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan said there is no scope to withdraw money without work, and action would be taken if the allegations are proven.
