Nephew killed by uncle’s machete blow in Mymensingh

A youth was killed by a machete blow from his uncle in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh.

The terrific incident took place around 5:00pm at Pachua village of Raona Union in the upazila on Saturday afternoon (April 4).

The deceased, Mohammad Rifat, 20, the son of Md. Monsur Ali, was attacked when his uncle, Md. Monir Hossain, reportedly attempted to assault his own son. Rifaat intervened and was struck below the knee, suffering fatal injuries.

Locals rushed him first to Gafargaon Health Complex and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the mattter, Gafargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman said, "The attack reportedly stemmed from a long-standing family dispute over land and inheritance. Victim’s family has filed a case into the matter.

"Authorities are searching for the fugitive accused," he added.
