New bank notes hit market before Eid; available at 11 banks
Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, Bangladesh Bank has introduced new bank notes into circulation. From June 1, a limited supply of new notes began distribution from the Motijheel office, and starting June 2, these notes are available at selected branches of 11 commercial banks.
The new notes include denominations of 1,000, 50, and 20 taka, signed by Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur. Customers can collect them from designated branches of Sonali, Janata, Agrani, Rupali, Pubali, Uttara, Dutch-Bangla, Islami Bank Bangladesh, Al-Arafah Islami, and BRAC Bank.
A total of Tk 20 billion worth of new notes have been printed for Eid, mostly distributed via commercial banks, with the rest provided through central bank branches. All existing currency notes and coins remain valid.
Before Eid, only new notes of Tk 20, 50, and 1,000 are being issued. After Eid, new notes of Tk 5, 10, 100, 200, and 500 will gradually enter circulation.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Arif Hossain emphasized that new notes are being supplied to select banks first, and more denominations will be introduced in subsequent phases.
