New commissioner visits Rangpur murder scene, says no scope for negligence

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rashid said police are working to uncover the real cause behind the quadruple murder and bring those involved to justice. Legal action will be taken based on evidence and information gathered through the investigation.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the crime scene in the Machuapara area of Rangpur city on Friday, August 28.

The newly appointed police commissioner said, "I have come here to see the crime scene. This incident and the case are important. The investigation is ongoing. As the investigation proceeds, many questions will arise, and it is our responsibility to answer those questions professionally. We are doing that."

He said the sensational incident is being investigated with utmost importance. There has been much speculation across the country regarding this case. "Our goal is to collect evidence for every speculation and, through proper accountability, take the case to its proper conclusion and submit the charge sheet to court so that justice is ensured," he said.

Responding to allegations that evidence was destroyed by washing the rooftop of teacher Ganapati Chakraborty's house, the commissioner said, "I have also heard what you have heard. I joined Rangpur yesterday. There is no question of washing away evidence. This is a crime scene; evidence has already been collected."

The RMP commissioner further said there is no room for negligence in such incidents. All necessary technological and intelligence support is being taken for the investigation. "If any new clue emerges, we will investigate. This is police work, but we need cooperation from everyone," he added.

Mahbubur Rashid said drugs are not just a problem of Rangpur but of the entire country. At present, it is a social problem. "I sat with my officers this morning, spoke to them and gave them time. I hope you will see a change within a week," he said.

The quadruple murder of four members of the same family in Rangpur has caused widespread sensation. Amidst various questions surrounding the incident, the new police commissioner's visit and interaction with journalists have been viewed as significant.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the case has been transferred from Kotwali Police Station to the Detective Branch (DB), with DB OC Jinat Ali appointed as the new investigation officer.
