New DMP Commissioner assumes office

Newly appointed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali took the charge on Thursday (21 November) at the DMP Headquarters, replacing Md Mainul Hasan.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, said that Sheikh Sajjat Ali was greeted by the outgoing Commissioner, Md Mainul Hasan, when he arrived at the DMP Headquarters.

A well-prepared and organized team from Dhaka Metropolitan Police gave a Guard of Honor to the new Commissioner. After the handover process, the newly appointed Commissioner and senior DMP officials formally bid farewell to Md Mainul Hasan.

Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali started his career on January 21, 1986, as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He later served as Additional Superintendent of Police in Jhenaidah, Police Headquarters, and SB. As a Deputy Police Commissioner, he worked at DMP and served as Police Superintendent in Narail, Bagerhat, and Lakshmipur districts. He also held the position of Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police.

He was promoted to DIG and successfully handled responsibilities at Highway Police, Chattogram Range, Police Headquarters, and Dhaka Range. In 2016, he was serving as Additional IG at Police Headquarters when he was retired compulsorily on November 3. He has also served as a member of the Police Reform Commission formed by the current government.

Sheikh Sajjat Ali participated in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission and has received various professional training both domestically and internationally.
