New political party in a month or two: Nasiruddin Patwary

The students and the people will announce a political party in a month or two, said Nasiruddin Patwary, convener of the National Citizens' Committee on Monday (December 16).

"The Anti-discrimination Student Movement and National Citizens' Committee will present a political party within the next one or two months," he told media after paying tribute at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Victory Day.

A 55-member platform called the National Citizens' Committee was launched on September 8, with Muhammad Nasiruddin Patwari as the convener and Akhtar Hossain, former social welfare secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union, as the member secretary.

The committee aims to support the interim government, bring it under accountability, and influence policymaking in the public interest.

The committee's tasks include upholding the democratic aspirations of the uprising, ensuring justice for those involved in the massacre of students and citizens, and cooperating with the interim government to reform state institutions.
