New Thyroid Protocol unveiled at SNMB's 29th National Conference
The Society of Nuclear Medicine, Bangladesh (SNMB), the country's leading professional body of nuclear medicine physicians and scientists, held its 29th National Conference on Friday, April 24, at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.
The highlight of the day-long conference was a joint presentation by Professor Dr A.K.M. Fazlul Bari and Professor Dr Zinat Zebin, who unveiled the Hyperthyroidism and Thyroid Cancer Protocol 2026 — a significant development expected to set new clinical standards in nuclear medicine practice across Bangladesh.
Nearly fifty scientific papers were presented throughout the day, covering contemporary issues in the field.
The inauguration was attended by Professor Dr Abu Jafar Md Zahid Hossain, Minister for Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, as the chief guest. He urged physicians and scientists to place greater emphasis on research.
The Science and Technology Secretary, Mr Md Anwar Hossain, and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Dr M Mainul Islam, attended as special guests . The outgoing SNMB President, Professor Dr Faria Nasrin, presided over the ceremony.
Alongside the presentation of the Young Scientist Awards recognising emerging researchers, the conference's Annual General Meeting elected a new executive committee for 2026–28. Professor Dr Sanowar Hossain, former Chairman of BAEC, was elected President. Professor Dr A.K.M. Fazlul Bari was elected Senior Vice-President; Professor Dr Zinat Zebin was elected General Secretary; and Professor Dr Abu Bakar Siddique was elected Treasurer.
