New Titas well to add up to 16 million cubic feet daily

The drilling of Well No. 28 at the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria has been successfully completed, with the new well expected to add 11 to 16 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per day to the national grid, according to Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL).

The well was formally inaugurated on Saturday (September 19).

According to a press release issued by BGFCL, drilling of Titas-28 was completed under the project titled “Drilling of Five Appraisal-cum-Development Wells at Titas and Kamta Fields,” aimed at increasing gas supplies to the national grid.

The company said drilling began on December 15, 2025, under a contract with Chinese company CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (CCDC). The 3,601-metre-deep well was completed on June 11, 2026, after around six months of work at a cost of Tk 200 crore.

Completion work, along with drill stem testing (DST) and production testing, was subsequently carried out. Following the tests, the well was found to have the potential to produce between 11 and 16 million cubic feet of gas per day.

BGFCL officials expressed hope that the start of gas production from the new Titas well would help ease the ongoing gas shortage in the country to some extent. They also said the additional supply could contribute to maintaining normal production in the industrial and power sectors.

The company further said that as part of the government’s long-term master plan, a decision has been taken to drill a total of 11 wells by 2030. Once completed, the wells are expected to add another 205 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.
