Bangladesh Police is set to introduce a new uniform for its members from November 15. The new iron-coloured attire will first be worn by personnel serving in metropolitan and specialised units.

Assistant Inspector General (Media) A H M Shahadat Hossain said that members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), Highway Police, River Police and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) will be the first to adopt the new uniform.

“The new iron-coloured and distinctively styled uniforms will be supplied by November 15. Initially, metropolitan and specialised units will begin wearing them, followed gradually by range and district-level officers,” he said.

Following the July uprising, the government approved a comprehensive reform initiative on January 20 this year to change the uniform colours of Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The objective of this change is to give the forces a renewed identity as symbols of modernity and accountability.
