New UNOs appointed in 166 upazilas
Ahead of the thirteenth national parliamentary election, the government has transferred and appointed new upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) after reshuffling the ranks of deputy commissioners (DCs).
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Administration issued separate notifications appointing new UNOs—officers of senior assistant secretary rank—in 166 upazilas in the first phase.
The appointments were made through eight separate notifications.
According to the notifications, the designated officials are vested with the powers of Executive Magistrate under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, to carry out their responsibilities as upazila nirbahi officers.
The appointed officials must join their new workplaces by November 30; otherwise, they will be considered released (stand released) from their current workplace (training/posting) on the afternoon of November 30.
The notification adds that if the department or workplace of the transferred officers has already changed, they must submit their joining letter mentioning the name and address of the office where they are currently posted.
