Newborn abandoned at DMCH with note seeking help

Relatives of a three-day-old baby girl abandoned her at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday evening, leaving behind a note that read, “I am a victim of circumstances. Please, someone take care of this baby.”

According to hospital sources, around 6:40pm, a couple admitted the infant, identifying themselves as her grandparents and claiming the mother would arrive later. Moments later, they left the hospital, leaving the child in the fifth-floor pediatric ward.

A bag found beside the baby contained diapers, clothes, medicines, and a handwritten note mentioning the baby’s date of birth as November 4, 2025. The hospital register listed the couple’s names as Insuara and Shahinur from Aladipur, Phulbari.

Intern doctor Ahsanullah said the baby appeared healthy though born prematurely. She is currently under phototherapy and kept in a warmer for observation.

The incident drew public attention on Friday, with several people visiting the hospital expressing interest in adopting the baby.
