Newlywed abducted after wedding convoy attacked in Kishoreganj

A newlywed woman was allegedly abducted after a group of youths intercepted and vandalised a vehicle carrying her, the groom and relatives at Hossainpur in in Kishoreganj.

The incident took place at Hajipur Bazar in Jinary Union as the wedding party was travelling to the groom’s home on Sunday night (August 30).

According to police and local sources, the woman, Tamanna Akter, daughter of Abul Mia of Noyapara in Hossainpur, married Akter Mia, 28, of Rajabaria village in Nandail earlier that day. After the wedding ceremony, the couple and their relatives left in a microbus.

According to the allegation, 20 to 25 youths stopped the vehicle at Hajipur Bazar and attacked and vandalised it. They allegedly forced Tamanna out of the microbus and took her away, leaving the groom and other wedding guests in panic.

Tamanna’s family alleged that the group was led by Mriad Mia, son of Mujibur of Char Hajipur village. They also alleged that Mriad had been harassing Tamanna for some time.

Mohammad Rashedul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hossainpur Police Station, said, “The groom’s family had filed a written complaint over the incident. The allegation is being investigated. Necessary legal action will be taken after those involved are identified.”
