News of Sheikh Hasina's resignation is false, fabricated: Joy
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claimed that the Indian newspaper's report of her resignation was 'fabricated'.
On Sunday, Sajeeb Wazed Joy posted on his verified ‘X’ account, “The recent resignation statement attributed to my mother in the newspaper is entirely false and fabricated. I have confirmed with her that she has not made any such statement, either before or after leaving Dhaka.”
The Indian media outlet "The Print" reported on Sunday that Sheikh Hasina sent a message to Awami League supporters, blaming the United States for her ousting. She claimed that her actions were aimed at preventing further loss of life and damage to property.
The report quoted Sheikh Hasina as saying, “I have stepped down. I came to power through your support; you were my strength. When you no longer wanted me, I chose to leave and resigned on my own.”
In an interview with Reuters last Friday, Joy stated, “My mother never formally resigned. She simply didn’t have the opportunity to do so.”
