The next five to six days will be critical in determining the future of Bangladesh's political direction, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, during a media briefing on Thursday.

“The coming days will reveal where the country is heading,” Alam told reporters. “However, under no circumstances will the national election be postponed. The Chief Adviser remains firm on holding the election as scheduled.”

He expressed hope that a participatory and peaceful electoral process would prevail, adding, “If the people engage, there will be no obstacle to a fair election.”

Alam acknowledged that the caretaker government assumed office at a time when the country was in a state of disorder. “Given that context, this administration has performed reasonably well,” he stated.

Addressing concerns over extortion and criminal activity, the Press Secretary reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance. “If evidence is found, action will be taken against those responsible regardless of their position or affiliation,” he said.

He also criticized the longstanding lack of financial transparency in political parties. “It is unfortunate that, even after 54 years of independence, political fundraising remains opaque,” he remarked.
