NID should be under EC: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said, I have not heard that the government's decision to remove NID activities from the Election Commission has been finalized. How it can be done has been discussed. We will inform the government in writing, it should be under the EC. We will inform the government on an urgent basis.

The CEC said these things when officials and employees presented their demands in front of his office at the Election Building on Thursday (March 6).

The CEC said, we came to know about it when we were called for a meeting. However, I do not know that a decision has been made.

The Chief Election Commissioner said, the government may think that it will provide the service from one place. But I heard that it will be under the Election Commission.

When asked whether there will be a problem in the voter list if the NID activities are not there, the CEC said, yes. The NID is a by-product of the voter list. The people here have worked here for 17 years. They are the ones who brought it so far. They did it as an additional work of their own. It is a network. The government will definitely take these overall issues into consideration. There may be a gap in communication. After receiving our written opinion, there will definitely be no gap.

He said, we are a constitutional body. If the government changes the law, we have to obey the law. But in the process of making the law, we will strongly express our opinion. Wherever there is a need to give an opinion, we will give it.

I would like to tell the officials that I am not the final decision-maker, you should understand this. I represent the Election Commission. I can speak for the EC, I can present the position to the government on behalf of the EC. I will do this strongly.
