NID to include nickname, names of multiple wives
The National Identity Registration Division (NID) has made a policy decision to include nicknames and the names of multiple wives in the National Identity Card (NID). The Director-General of the division, A M M Humayun Kabir, confirmed this information on Monday.
Humayun Kabir said, "We have received numerous requests for amendments. In these requests, it is evident that many people are not able to include their nicknames. As a result, we have been unable to resolve these issues. To address this, we had a discussion yesterday, and the preliminary idea that came up was that, since many people in Bangladesh use nicknames separately from their official or real names, if we include the nickname in Form 2, it could help us identify many people."
The Director-General of NID added, "Another issue is that many second wives request that their names be included in the database. However, we cannot do this spontaneously. If we can include the names of second wives in Form 2 from the beginning, then this problem will not arise in the future. So, we discussed whether this could be included in Form 2."
Humayun Kabir informed that once the Election Commission or the senior authorities in the government approve the proposal, it will be implemented.
