Night guard killed after being abducted during audacious gold shop robbery

A night watchman was kidnapped and killed for obstructing a gold shop in Ramganj Bazar, Lakshmipur, police said.

A robbery incident took place at a gold shop named New Apan Shilpalaya in Patbazar area of ​​Ramganj Municipality around 3am on Friday (May 1).

According to police and local sources, a group of robbers entered the shop in a white microbus. They looted about 6 bhors of gold and 100 bhors of silver from the shop.

When he resisted, the robbers forcibly kidnapped night watchman Farid Hossain,44. He was later beaten and stabbed to death and left on the side of the road in the nearby Hajiganj area.

Police recovered his body with his hands and feet tied from the side of the Hajiganj-Ramganj road on Saturday morning (May 2).

Shop owner Rupam Shil said that a large amount of goods, including an iron box weighing about 250 kg, were looted from the shop, the estimated value of which is around 20 lakh taka.

The officer-in-charge of Ramganj Police Station said that an investigation is underway by collecting CCTV footage and efforts are being made to identify those involved.

On the other hand, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PIB) said that the recovered body is that of Farid Hossain and the matter is being investigated in coordination with the local police.

Police say that both the robbery and the murder are being investigated with utmost importance and efforts are being made to identify the criminals quickly.
