Ninth-grader's body found hanging at bathroom in Dhaka

A ninth-grade female student was found dead in the bathroom of her family’s home in Dhaka’s Kadamtali, Shanir Akhra area on Friday evening (December 5).

The deceased, Samiya Akhter Diya, 15, originally from Chandina in Cumilla, was a student of Barnamala Adarsha School and College, Dania, Jatrabari.

She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared her dead on arrival.

According to her family, she had gone to the bathroom and did not respond for an unusually long time, prompting them to break open the door and found haning with cloth-hanger, after which she was rushed to the hospital.

Her brother Nazmul said Samiya had recently been under emotional stress related to a personal relationship, which the family believed may have contributed to her distress. After we came to know about it, she was scolded in some extent.

Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH police camp confirmed the incident and said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. Kadamtali Police Station has been notified.

"Further investigation into this matter is underway," he added.
