NIOH restarts outpatient services following two-week shutdown
The National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital (NIOH) resumed outdoor services on Thursday following a suspension of more than two weeks, providing much-needed relief to patients seeking eye treatment.
By 11:20 a.m., approximately 200 patients were waiting on the hospital’s ground floor.
The hospital halted all services on May 28 after a confrontation between staff and a group of patients injured during the July uprising, who were receiving treatment alongside other patients and their attendants.
While emergency services partially resumed on June 4, other outpatient services remained suspended until today.
Hospital authorities announced that limited outdoor services will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
However, at 11:20 a.m., ticket counters were observed closed. A nurse at the hospital’s help desk confirmed the counters had closed at 11:00 a.m. but could not provide a reason.
“We hope to resume full services from Saturday,” she said.
