Nitrogen gas leak from tank lorry in Baraigram, area covered in white smoke

A large amount of nitrogen gas leaked from a tank lorry carrying the gas, spreading into the open air in Baraigram, Natore.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, August 11, in front of the Bonpara Highway Hotel.

Witnesses said the lorry was carrying nitrogen gas from Benapole port towards Dhaka. After the driver parked the lorry in front of Bonpara Highway Hotel to have a meal, the tank's loading point suddenly opened with a loud sound.

Gas began to escape rapidly, covering the surrounding area in thick white smoke within a short time, causing panic among locals.

Baraigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam said the driver had already left the scene before police arrived. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the lorry was carrying imported nitrogen gas.

Police said they are gathering necessary information to determine the cause of the incident and the extent of the gas leak.
