Nixon Chowdhury named prime accused in case filed over police station attack in Bhanga
A case has been filed over the attack and vandalism at Bhanga Police Station in Faridpur, naming former lawmaker Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, widely known as Nixon Chowdhury, as the prime accused.
Nixon, a presidium member of the Jubo League, earlier represented the Faridpur-4 (Bhanga-Sadarpur-Charbhadrasan) constituency.
Sub-Inspector Azaduzzaman of Bhanga Police Station filed the case on Tuesday (September 16), naming 29 people and several unidentified accused.
Faridpur's Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Shamsul Azam confirmed the matter to reporters on Wednesday afternoon (September 17).
Hamirdi Union Parishad Chairman Khokon Mia was listed as the second accused. Police said the attack caused damages of about Tk 40 lakh.
The incident followed protests against the Election Commission’s September 4 decision to merge Algi and Hamirdi unions of Faridpur-4 with Faridpur-2. Demonstrations escalated into highway and railway blockades and, on September 14, violent attacks on Bhanga Police Station, the upazila complex, and government offices.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamrul Islam Mollah said, "Investigations are underway and legal action will be taken against those responsible."
