No alternative to media for transparent elections: EC

Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah has said that there is no alternative to media to ensure a transparent elections.

He made the remarks at the inauguration of a day-long training programme organized for journalists at the Election Training Institute ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections on Wednesday (December 3).

Commissioner Sanaullah said that the country's electoral system has been severely damaged in the last one and a half decades. It is everyone's responsibility to come out of this situation and rebuild trust.

He also commented that the upcoming national elections will be a different kind of election in the history of independent Bangladesh.

He further said that it takes an average of three to three and a half minutes for each voter to cast two votes at once. He also assured that free movement of media and news coverage will be ensured on polling day.

At the same time, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Akhtar Ahmed said that the Election Commission is now in an 'election tide' ahead of the national elections. He also commented that the commission is moving forward with the goal of organizing the best election of the century in coordination with the government.
