The Indian government has clarified that it is not aware of any anti-Bangladesh or illegal activities in India by Awami League members and has called the statement from Bangladesh’s Interim Government on this issue inaccurate.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Wednesday said, “The Government of India does not permit political activities against other countries to be conducted from Indian soil.”

Earlier, Bangladesh’s Interim Government strongly condemned reports claiming that the Awami League, banned in Bangladesh, had opened offices in India to conduct political activities.

In its statement, the Bangladesh government said, “The Awami League leadership is increasingly conducting anti-Bangladesh activities from India. Many senior party leaders, convicted of crimes against humanity and fugitives in Bangladesh, are currently residing in India. The government urges the immediate closure of offices established in New Delhi and Kolkata.”

Responding to media queries, Jaiswal said, “The Government of India has no knowledge of any anti-Bangladesh or illegal activities by Awami League members in India. Therefore, the press statement by Bangladesh’s Interim Government is misplaced.”

“India reiterates its hope that free, fair, and inclusive elections will be held in Bangladesh as soon as possible to reflect the will and mandate of the people,” he added.
