No arrests 48 hours after Pir Shamim killing
No case has been filed yet in the murder of Pir Shamim Reza Jahangir in Daulatpur, Kushtia. Even after 48 hours of the incident, the police have not been able to arrest anyone in the incident.
The deceased's elder brother, retired school teacher Fazlur Rahman, said, "Last night, the whole family decided to sit together and not file a case. The one who is dead cannot be found again. I don't want to get involved in unnecessary trouble."
He also said that since he is over 70 years old, he does not have the physical capacity to handle the case and run around.
In response to the question of whether there is any pressure not to file a case, he said, "No, there is no pressure. The police are still present at the court."
Meanwhile, Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman said, "The family members were informed that they would come to the police station in the morning to file a case. However, they did not come to the police station later. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved."
Earlier, an attack was carried out on the Philipnagar Darbar Sharif over allegations of hurting religious sentiments on Saturday afternoon. In that incident, the Darbar was vandalized and set on fire, and Pir Shamim was hacked and beaten to death.
According to locals, tension arose over an old video that was circulating on social media. After that, more than a hundred people took out a procession and attacked the Darbar. It is alleged that the attack, vandalism and killings took place in the presence of the police.
The video footage showed that more than a hundred people were moving towards the Darbar while chanting slogans and later vandalized and set fire to the buildings. The fire service arrived and brought the fire under control.
