No auto pass will be given, regardless of protests: National University VC
National University Vice-Chancellor Professor A.S.M. Amanullah has firmly stated that no “auto pass” will be granted to students, regardless of the scale of protests. This statement was made following an attack on the Vice-Chancellor by protesters on Wednesday afternoon. Later that evening, he took to Facebook to express his strong position on the matter.
In his post, Professor Amanullah wrote, “You may have attacked me, injured me, and you may continue with whatever actions you choose. However, we will not grant an auto pass. We will not allow the education system of this nation to be destroyed before our eyes. A national institution that oversees 70% of the country’s higher education cannot, under any circumstances, issue an auto pass.”
Along with his statement, the Vice-Chancellor shared links to news reports and videos from CCTV cameras that captured the attack. His position was widely supported by netizens in the comment section.
Earlier, in the afternoon, the Vice-Chancellor was attacked in front of the administrative building’s main gate in Board Bazaar, Gazipur. The attack occurred as part of a protest by students from the 2022 batch of the university, who have been demanding an auto pass.
University officials revealed that a group of students has been protesting for several days, demanding that they be passed without exams or even if they have failed. However, the university administration has remained steadfast in its decision not to provide an auto pass.
