BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman faces no legal or administrative barriers to returning to Bangladesh and may do so at any time if he chooses, according to Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The adviser made the statement while speaking to reporters following a visit to the Salna Highway Police Station in Gazipur around noon on Thursday.

Addressing recent reports that India has been forcibly pushing people into Bangladesh under the guise of them being Bangladeshi nationals, Chowdhury said, “Those being pushed in from India are not arriving through proper channels. They are being forcefully sent in a manner that is inhumane. We have informed the Indian High Commission of the matter.”

Earlier this week, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, “Tarique Rahman will certainly return to the country and very soon.” However, he did not provide a specific date for the return.

Meanwhile, Tarique Rahman, currently residing in London, is scheduled to meet with Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who is on a UK visit. The meeting is expected to take place on Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM local time.
