No case filed yet over Lakshmipur murder of mother, 3 daughters
More than 24 hours after a mother and her three daughters were hacked to death in Lakshmipur's Raipur, police are yet to file a case as they await a formal complaint from the victims' family.
Police said the case will be filed after the post-mortem examinations are completed. The body of the suspected attacker, who died after being beaten by locals, also remains at the district hospital morgue for autopsy.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdur Rashed said investigators are treating the case with utmost importance but the motive behind the killings has not yet been established.
The incident has left the family's only surviving child, Sifat Hossain, traumatised, while a pall of grief hangs over the area. Additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order.
The victims will be laid to rest at their family graveyard in Cumilla after funeral prayers in Raipur and their ancestral home in Homna.
The killings took place on Thursday morning when police said a mobile fruit vendor allegedly entered the family's rented house and attacked Shahinur Begum, 38, and her daughters -- Sayma Akter, 20, a Dhaka University student, Ikra Akter, 17, and Shifa Akter, 9 -- with a sharp weapon.
Shahinur and Sayma died at the scene, while the two younger daughters died on the way to hospital.
The suspect was later caught and beaten by locals before being handed over to police. He died after being taken to hospital.
