No case yet in CU student-local clash, students boycott classes and exams
At Chittagong University (CU), no case has yet been filed over the clash between students and local villagers. The police have also not made any arrests so far.
Meanwhile, classes and exams were not held at the university on Tuesday. Various active student organisations have announced that students will not return to classes until those responsible for attacking students are arrested and the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctorial Board resign. Protests have been planned today in support of these demands.
Earlier, on Monday evening, the first meeting of a coordination committee formed with university administration, local representatives, and student leaders decided to file cases against those involved in the incident overnight.
Prior to that, in a separate meeting on Sunday night, law enforcement officials had announced the arrest of those involved. However, as of Tuesday morning, no cases have been filed and no one has been detained.
The university authorities had suspended exams until September 4, though departments were allowed to conduct exams if they wished. Despite this, no exams were held in any department.
Students have declared a boycott of classes and exams demanding justice for those attacked and other related issues. They said they will not return to classes until justice is served for their fellow students and will continue their movement in a disciplined manner.
Previously, over 200 students and several villagers were injured during clashes between students and villagers on Saturday night and Sunday.
