No dancing or sound system allowed in Brahmanbaria boat race

Md. Abu Sayeed, Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria, has said the traditional boat race will be organized in the district after two years with conditions that no provocative activities, use of sound system on boats or dancing with musical instruments will be allowed.

The boat race is scheduled to be held on September 12. These decisions were taken at a preparatory meeting for organizing the boat race held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner at noon on Monday (August 24). Md. Abu Sayeed, Deputy Commissioner, presided over the meeting. No boat race was held in Brahmanbaria in 2024 and 2025.

Sirajul Islam Siraj, District Council Administrator, Md. Shariful Islam, Deputy Director of Local Government Division, Piyas Basak, Additional Police Super, Mobarak Hossain Akand, District Jamaat-e-Islami Amir, Jabed Rahim Bijon, President of Brahmanbaria Press Club, Tanim Sahed Ripon, General Secretary of District Sports Association, and Advocate Md. Ishak, boat race organiser, along with other concerned persons spoke at the meeting.

Speakers at the meeting said Brahmanbaria is a city of culture. Therefore, this cultural practice must be continued through organizing the traditional boat race. However, everyone must remain cautious so that no provocation or unpleasant situation is created centring the event.

For this reason, sound system cannot be used on the boats taking part in the competition or going to enjoy it. Dancing by playing musical instruments will also not be allowed.

Md. Abu Sayeed, Deputy Commissioner, said the district administration wants to organize the boat race in a peaceful and joyful environment with the cooperation of all.
