No discrimination in hilly region: Adviser
Adviser on Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs, Supradeep Chakma, said that there will be no discrimination in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, urging that people in the region must move forward through communal harmony.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the 75th anniversary celebration of Bandarban Government High School on Saturday (April 5).
The Platinum Jubilee festival began with a balloon release and procession at the school premises, officially inaugurated by Chakma. The day-long program continued with the national anthem and an oath-taking ceremony.
In his speech, Chakma called for unity among the different ethnic groups in the hilly region, including Pahari-Bengali, Marma, Chakma, Tripura, and Bam communities. "The cooperation of all communities in the area is essential to achieve this unity," he said.
He urged that no group should consider themselves separate, but rather understand that all are citizens of Bangladesh. He stressed that living together in peace and harmony is the goal of the interim government.
The event was also attended by several distinguished figures, including Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Professor Thanjama Lusai, Additional Deputy Commissioner SM Manjurul Alam, Police Superintendent Md Shahidullah Kawsar, Zone Commander Lt. Col. ASM Mahmudul Hasan, and other senior administrative officials and dignitaries.
