No economic stagnation during Eid holidays: Finance Adviser

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has stated that the country will observe a continuous 9-day holiday during Eid. However, this will not cause any economic stagnation in the country.

He made this statement in response to a question from journalists after a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Council Committee at the Secretariat on Thursday.

The Adviser mentioned that even though there will be a 9-day holiday during Eid, there will be no stagnation in the economy. Most of the advisory council members will remain in Dhaka during this time. Even if some secretaries travel abroad, there will be no issues in making decisions, Dr Salehuddin assured, as decisions can now be made digitally.

The Adviser further stated that in the Government Procurement Advisory Committee meeting, approval was granted for the purchase of 50,000 metric tons of Basmati rice through open tender, 70,000 metric tons of fertilizer from Saudi Arabia and the domestic market, and two cargo shipments of LNG from the spot market.
