No election in February: Nasir Uddin Patwary
Nasir Uddin Patwary, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has said there will be no election in February.
He stated that even if the current government announces one, it will not be acceptable.
Speaking as the chief guest at the National Youth Conference 2025, held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday (August 12) to mark International Youth Day, Patwary said “If there is to be an election, then my martyred brother must be returned from the grave, and my brother who lost his hand must have it restored. If elections are to be held under the same system in Bangladesh, then why did our brothers have to be martyred?”
He stressed, “First, Sheikh Hasina must be brought back from Delhi and tried, then there will be an election. The July Charter must be implemented. They are trying to pressure us, but we know the dangers that will come if we sign.”
Accusing the media, Patwary said, “Previously, the media was in Hasina’s pocket; now, if I name whose pocket it is in, people will lose their jobs. There is an administrative body in Bangladesh called the DGIF, which threatens to summon people to the ‘mirror room’ at the slightest word. Bullets are bought with taxpayers’ money to fire into the chests of young people — this must stop. We have destroyed the mirror room, and if necessary, DGIF will also be dismantled.”
He added, “Neither the Jatiya Party nor the Awami League will be spared. Some embassies are also trying to exert pressure, but it will not work. If you want to take any benefit, you will have to take it over the chests of the youth.”
