No election without full reforms, says Jamaat
Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has called for elections to be held only after complete reforms. A six-member delegation, headed by the party's Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, met with the Election Commission on Thursday and conveyed this message to the media.
The Secretary General of Jamaat said, "In line with the people's expectations, local elections should be held first, followed by the national parliamentary elections."
"To ensure the election is truly fair and impartial, reforms are necessary. There can be no election without reforms," he added.
During the meeting, Jamaat-e-Islami presented 30 demands to the Election Commission.
When journalists asked if they agreed with the Election Commission's plan for elections in December, Mia Golam Parwar replied, "The exact date is not the issue; complete reforms must be carried out first, and then elections can be held."
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin led the Election Commission, accompanied by the other commissioners. On Jamaat's side, the meeting was attended by Hamidur Rahman Azad, Matiur Rahman Akon, Advocate Jashim Uddin Sarker, Advocate Kamal Uddin, and Advocate Yusuf Ali.
