Agriculture Adviser Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that there is no fertiliser shortage in the country this season. Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday morning, he said the current supply is sufficient to meet agricultural demands.

“There is adequate fertiliser available this season. However, to preserve the quality of topsoil, farmers should consider reducing excessive use,” said Chowdhury.

When asked whether the $6 billion trade deficit between Bangladesh and the United States could be reduced through wheat imports, the adviser noted that this year’s wheat production has been satisfactory.

“Wheat is being imported in compliance with regulations. There will be no shortfall as imports are aligned with actual demand,” he added.

The adviser also emphasized the critical role of farmers in ensuring food security. He noted that shortly after the interim government took office, floods affected five districts, with 24 others suffering significant damage.
