No fuel for motorcycles without licence, registration, helmet: SMP
Motorcycle owners must now meet three specific conditions when collecting fuel from filling stations in Sylhet city. The Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has requested filling station authorities not to supply fuel if the conditions are not fulfilled.
A public notice regarding the matter was issued on the WhatsApp group of SMP's media branch on Wednesday evening, March 25. The notice stated the directive was issued in the public interest and warned that legal action would be taken against violators or those creating disorder.
According to the notice, three conditions must be met to collect fuel on motorcycles:
First, the rider must possess a valid driving licence.
Second, the motorcycle must have valid registration.
Third, both the rider and any passenger must wear helmets with clear visors.
The notice, signed by SMP Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, instructed filling stations not to supply fuel if these conditions are not fulfilled.
According to local sources, recent fuel shortages and supply issues had been causing difficulties for motorcyclists at filling stations in the city. In many cases, adequate fuel supply was also not possible. The new rules have been introduced to control the situation and maintain order.
