Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed announced that from now on, government land will not be allotted to any organization at a nominal or symbolic price. He emphasized that any institution seeking such land must pay its appropriate market value.

Dr Ahmed made the statement on Tuesday after a meeting of the Economic Affairs and Public Procurement Advisory Council Committee at the Cabinet Division conference room.

At the meeting, a proposal was presented for the policy approval to transfer 54.99 acres of land belonging to the closed Jalil Textile Mills in Chattogram to the Bangladesh Army for Tk 17 crore. The land will be used for the expansion of the Bangladesh Ordnance Factory (BOF).

Commenting on the proposal, the Economic Adviser said, “While the organization expressed interest in acquiring the land, we have recommended that it should not be provided at a nominal price. Anyone wishing to take government land must pay for it. This measure aims to ensure proper utilization of land, as nominal pricing often leads to misuse. In many cases, even when only 10 acres are needed, organizations claim they require 100 acres if the land is provided nominally.
