No govt job quota for July fighters: Liberation War Adviser
The government will not introduce any quota in public sector employment for individuals recognized as "July Fighters," confirmed Faruk-e-Azam, Adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs .
Speaking at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Monday, the adviser made the remarks in response to a question from journalists.
Faruk-e-Azam stated that the current interim government was formed on August 8 following the downfall of the Awami League regime through a bloody student-led mass uprising on August 5, aimed at ending autocracy and systemic discrimination. The government officially recognizes this movement as the July Uprising.
On December 12, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs was entrusted with the administrative responsibilities related to the welfare of the families of those killed and injured in the uprising, he said.
To manage all related activities—including finalizing the list of martyrs and injured, providing medical support, and rehabilitating affected families—the government established the Directorate of the July Uprising on April 28.
The adviser noted that the government has officially recognized those killed during the movement as "July Martyrs" and those injured as "July Fighters" under the "July Uprising Martyrs’ Families and July Fighters’ Welfare and Rehabilitation Ordinance, 2025."
Based on data from the Health Services Division, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs published a gazette listing 844 martyrs—834 on January 15 and 10 more on June 30.
Injured individuals have been categorized into three groups according to the severity of their injuries. On February 27, 493 July Fighters were included in Category A, 908 in Category B, and 1,642 in Category C, with corresponding gazette notifications issued in early March.
The adviser further mentioned that a revised list from the Health Services Division includes 1,769 July Fighters—114 in Category A, 213 in Category B, and 1,442 in Category C. This list is currently under review and will be gazetted soon.
Despite their official recognition and the government's commitment to their welfare, no special quota will be reserved for July Fighters in government recruitment, he confirmed.
