No legal bar to release Baul singer Abul Sarkar: Lawyer

There is no legal bar to the release of Baul singer Abul Sarkar, who has been granted bail by the High Court, as there are no other cases against him, his lawyer advocate Kazi Kamrul Islam Sajal said.

He disclosed the information to the media on Monday evening, April 6.

Earlier on Sunday, the High Court granted six months' bail to Abul Sarkar. The HC bench of Justice Md Atwar Rahman and Justice Md Sagir Hossain issued a rule along with the bail.

On November 19 last year, a team of Manikganj DB police arrested Abul Sarkar from a musical event in Madaripur. A case was filed against him at Gheor Police Station the following day over allegations of making derogatory remarks about religion during a performance at a fair in Gheor upazila, Manikganj, on November 4.

He was shown arrested in that case and sent to jail by the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in Manikganj.
