Zainul Abedin Faruk, Adviser to the BNP Chairperson, stated that significant reforms are not required for holding a neutral election like in 1991. He said, "The reforms we need are those that will enable people to purchase rice for 40 taka per kg."

He made these remarks during a discussion held by the central committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party in front of the National Press Club on Friday (January 17).

Faruk called for the immediate announcement of the election date and said, "We support the agenda from the July-August movements. However, the agenda should also include the history of 1947, the Liberation War, Khaleda Zia’s role in the 1990 anti-autocracy movement, Dr. Milon’s sacrifice, the false charges against Khaleda Zia, and the sacrifices made by BNP over the past 16 years."

Addressing the interim government, Faruk said, "Some of their actions are being rejected by the people. Over the past 16 years, there has been no freedom of speech or press, and whenever we speak about democracy and the independence of the judiciary, cases are filed against us. People protesting the rising prices have been persecuted. Ignoring the voices of those oppressed for 16 years and focusing solely on the July revolution will not lead to a successful public uprising."
