No more disputes over Sultanganj river port: Shipping Adviser
Brigadier General (Retd.) M. Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Labour and Employment, has said that the previous tensions between the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) over the Sultanganj river port in Rajshahi will no longer continue.
The adviser made the statement during a visit to the Sultanganj river port and Port of Protocol in Godagari on Friday morning. He also held discussions with local residents regarding the port’s future.
“High-level talks are needed to develop the infrastructure of Sultanganj river port. I view this positively,” said Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Hossain.
He added that starting operations at the river port requires approval from the NBR along with infrastructure improvements, including road development. Multiple government agencies are involved in the process, and he expressed optimism that once all parties cooperate, the port’s activities will commence soon.
The event was attended by Commodore Arif Ahmed Mostafa, Chairman of BIWTA; Masudur Rahman Rinku, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Abdul Wahed, President of Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
