No more persecution of religious minorities: Mamunul Haque in Sylhet
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque has said his party aims to build a harmonious Bangladesh with the participation of people of all faiths, including Hindus, Buddhists and Christians, stressing that persecution of religious minorities will no longer be tolerated.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (January 27) while addressing an election rally in Dhaka Dakshin Union of Golapganj upazila in Sylhet, campaigning in support of the 11-party alliance nominee for the Sylhet-6 constituency.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Dhaka North Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin is contesting the seat as the 11-party alliance candidate.
Calling on voters to elect him, Mamunul Haque said that if the alliance comes to power, there will be no oppression of working people and no persecution of religious minorities.
He added that no one would be forced to pay extortion money to run businesses or build homes. “Our future Bangladesh will be a country of justice and fairness,” he said.
Mamunul Haque said the electoral alliance was formed through unity among patriotic and Islamic-minded parties, adding that its victory would not be for any single party or individual but for the country’s 180 million people and for Bangladesh itself.
Referring to sacrifices made in recent movements, he said failing to free the country from fascism would amount to betraying the blood of martyrs.
He also claimed people were frustrated with mainstream politics and no longer wanted extortion-driven politics, warning that any future attempts at extortion or gangsterism would be resisted on the streets.
On the issue of the referendum, Mamunul Haque said he would not campaign for a ‘No’ vote, but added that the public would understand the stance of those who support it.
He further said the July uprising had shown that when people unite, no oppressor can stand against them.
Mamunul Haque arrived in Golapganj by helicopter earlier in the day. Leaders of the 11-party alliance, including Sylhet-6 candidate Selim Uddin, also addressed the rally.
