The National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has declared that in the current political climate, only students, the public, and youth involved in the recent mass uprising can ensure the safety and security of the people.

Speaking at a July Padajatra rally in Manikganj on Thursday night (July 17), Nahid said, "There is no one to protect us except the people. We have come to the streets with complete trust in them. We are ready to sacrifice our lives for justice and for the country."

Criticizing the government for failing to ensure security during their scheduled rally in Gopalganj, he alleged that "Awami terrorists" attacked their procession due to the administration's inaction. He reaffirmed NCP's commitment to return to Gopalganj despite the attacks.

"The violence has only strengthened our resolve," he stated. "We will return to Gopalganj—not with fear, but with love. NCP activists will reach every household."

Nahid also criticized the current constitution, stating that "Bangladesh will no longer be run under Mujib's constitution. We will establish a new, just constitution that represents the people."

Targeting other political factions, he said some leaders are only focused on power through elections and no longer follow their original ideology. He warned that if the ruling Awami League attempts to regain dominance, "revolutionary students and the masses will rise to defeat them again."

The rally was chaired by Manikganj District NCP Convener Advocate Zahidur Rahman Talukder. Other speakers included NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Northern Region Joint Convener Haider, and Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin.
