The interim government of Bangladesh has strongly condemned recent acts of violence in Gopalganj, asserting that there is no place for such brutality in the country. A statement issued on Wednesday by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance stance toward political violence and human rights violations.

According to the statement, the violent disruption of a peaceful gathering organized by young citizens to mark the first anniversary of the revolutionary movement was a “shameful violation of fundamental rights.” The gathering reportedly came under attack, with members of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), law enforcement personnel, and journalists facing physical assaults and damage to their vehicles.

The interim government alleged that individuals affiliated with the banned Chhatra League and the ruling Awami League were responsible for the attacks. It vowed to identify and prosecute those involved, promising full accountability under the law.

"We will not tolerate such heinous acts," the statement read. "Every perpetrator must be brought to justice swiftly. Violence has no place in the hands of any citizen in this country."

The government also praised the army and police for their immediate intervention, and lauded the resilience and courage of those who continued with the assembly despite the threat.

"This barbaric act will not go unpunished," the statement concluded. "Let it be absolutely clear: violence has no place in our country. Justice will be served."
