Even at the 100th working-day hearing, the investigating agency RAB has failed to submit an investigation report or charge sheet in the murder case of Narayanganj’s promising student Tanvir Muhammad Twaki.

The hearing was held on Wednesday afternoon at the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury in Narayanganj. After the hearing, the court fixed February 18 as the next date.

Seven accused were present in court during the hearing. They are Yusuf Hossain, an associate of Azmeri Osman, Yaar Mohammad Parvez, Tayef Uddin, Mamun Mia, Kajol Haldar, Safayet Hossain Shipon and Rifat Bin Osman. Arrest warrants remain in force against two absconding accused, Sultan Shawkat and Saleh Rahman.

The plaintiff’s lawyers, Pradeep Ghosh and Ziaul Islam, appeared in court. After the hearing, Pradeep Ghosh said it was extremely unfortunate that no charge sheet had been submitted even after the 100th working day of the court. He added that the court had been informed of the investigating officer’s continued failure to submit the report.

Earlier, at the 99th working-day hearing on November 27 last year, the court had directed the investigating officer to submit the charge sheet promptly. However, no progress has been made since then.

Expressing frustration over the lack of justice, Twaki’s father, Rafiur Rabbi, said nearly one and a half years have passed since the interim government took office and the case has crossed its 100th hearing date, yet no charge sheet has been filed. He termed this a serious failure of the investigating agency, adding that claims of progress in the investigation have not been reflected in reality.

When contacted, RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel HM Sazzad Hossain said the investigation is ongoing and the report will be submitted to the court soon after the probe is completed.

Tanvir Muhammad Twaki went missing on March 6, 2013, after leaving his home on Shayesta Khan Road in Narayanganj city. Two days later, on March 8, his body was recovered from the Kumudini canal of the Shitalakkhya river. In connection with the incident, RAB-11 arrested five people, including Sultan Shawkat Bhramor and Yusuf Hossain, both associates of Azmeri Osman. Later, Sultan Shawkat Bhramor and Yusuf Hossain gave confessional statements in court.

In his confession, Sultan Shawkat Bhramor said Twaki was abducted and later killed under the leadership of Azmeri Osman. At a press conference on March 5, 2014, RAB claimed that Twaki had been killed by 11 people led by Azmeri Osman at a torture cell on the orders of the influential Osman family of Narayanganj, and that a charge sheet would be submitted soon. Despite the passage of a long time, the charge sheet has yet to be filed in court.
