The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has assured that there are no security concerns surrounding the observance of holy Ashura this year.

Adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a peaceful observance, said SN Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of the DMP.

He made the statement at a press conference held Thursday morning (July 3) at the Lalbagh Hossaini Dalan Imambara, where the DMP outlined its comprehensive security plan for Ashura.

Addressing past incidents, including the 2015 JMB bomb attack on a Tazia procession, Nazrul Islam said, "Crime is crime. Killing people with bombs is a crime and will be dealt with under the existing law—regardless of era or motive. We are fully aware and have taken the necessary precautions."

Responding to journalists' questions about possible unrest, he acknowledged a changed political context and ongoing trials. "There is anger among some. Isolated incidents are not unusual, but the police are on highest alert. We have sufficient deployment and will ensure anyone involved in unlawful activities is brought to justice," he added.

Acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar, the Deputy Commissioner of Lalbagh Division, Shia religious leaders, and organizers of the Imambara and Tazia processions were present there.
