The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said it sees no immediate security threat surrounding the upcoming founding anniversary of the now-banned Awami League on June 23, but remains on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents.

Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Friday (June 19), Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S N Nazrul Islam said law enforcement agencies have taken necessary precautionary measures to maintain public safety.

“June 23 marks the founding anniversary of a political party. We are closely monitoring the situation and remain vigilant,” he said.

Nazrul Islam added that security checkpoints and surveillance operations have been strengthened across key locations in the capital, while intelligence monitoring has also been intensified as part of broader security arrangements.

He said the overall law and order situation in Dhaka remains stable and that police are fully prepared to deal with any attempt to create unrest or disrupt public order.

The enhanced security measures will remain in place as authorities continue to assess the situation, he added.
