No teen gang currently active in Mohammadpur: RAB
Special operations are underway to make Mohammadpur 'godfather-free', and no juvenile gangs are currently active in the area, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The gangs have been eliminated through these drives, said RAB-2 Commander Additional DIG Naymul Hasan at a press conference at the RAB Media Centre in Kawran Bazar on Friday.
"We are arresting the godfathers. We are not focusing too much on the lower-tier members or smaller groups," he said. "Arresting the godfathers has made Mohammadpur much more stable than before. We hope that in the near future, Mohammadpur will become safer and more habitable for everyone."
Regarding the hype surrounding Mohammadpur as the 'City of Gods', Naymul Hasan said, "It is essentially a perception. We are trying to bring Mohammadpur out of that perception and have already been largely successful. We hope to completely eliminate gang and terrorist activities from Mohammadpur soon."
The RAB official said the ongoing operations to rid Mohammadpur of hoodlums and terrorists are part of a broader effort to make the entire capital safe and crime-free.
On the murder of juvenile gang leader 'Alex Emon' in Mohammadpur, the RAB-2 commander said, "The investigating officer will be able to provide details on that. We see the arrest of five individuals as an important contribution to the investigation. After the arrestees are taken on remand and interrogated, the investigating officer will be able to provide detailed information on the cause and those involved in the murder. Since we are not directly investigating, the police station will be able to provide more information."
